Probably only very few people know that queer gamers are often confronted with homophobic attacks. Many perpetrators believe to be immune from legal prosecution in the anonymous world of video games. They feel powerful and express their dislike of homosexuality without inhibition. Furthermore, queer issues play a marginal role in games, just like in films until a few years ago. While the big game companies have used gay figures as amusement or lesbians as a sexy treat for straight men, the interesting stories happen in the works of small independent artists. Here the personal reference is much greater than in filmmaking: you not only watch the story, you also act it out. Because the identification with a figure is much more direct, it is all the more important for gamers to be able to see themselves in the figures.
